Final Fantasy X
My rating: 8
I know that an 8 is a pretty decent score, but in one word, Final Fantasy X was...
disappointing. Maybe as I grow older and more knowledgable about RPGs, I become more
critical, but it just seems like the Final Fantasy series has been declining in quality
through the past few games (especially considering FFXI is an MMORPG). The battle system in
Final Fantasy X is great; it worked really well and kept things interesting. The Sphere
Grid was also top-notch, perhaps even better than the Materia System. One of the coolest
features in Final Fantasy X is the Break Damage/HP/MP Limit. Never before have any Final
Fantasy characters been able to do more than 9999 damage, but in Final Fantasy X, they
can. This is helpful on one of the other coolest parts of Final Fantasy X: the monster
arena. It's like Ruby and Emerald Weapons times ten or so. But wait, with all of these
nice things that I have to say about Final Fantasy X, how could it have gotten such a
relatively low rating? It all comes down to the story. When you're spending 100+ hours
on something, it helps to be interesting. The story for Final Fantasy X is about as
linear as a story could get, with few plot twists and no real connection to the
characters. It is really a shame because this game has a lot going for it in almost
every other department, it just severely lacks in the story.
