Just Like Heaven, The Story of One Year

For one week during the summer, Erica and Darren both had to leave town. They believed it was lucky that they would leave on the same day and return within a day of each other. Better for both to be gone for a week than one gone for a week then the other gone the next. Still, Erica and Darren were sure that they would miss each other, as they had not been a day without each other since June 1. "It's just a week," Darren's mom said.
That week turned out to be one of the longest weeks ever. Erica made a pack of things for Darren to read on the plane, which he did. Among those things, there were seven notes, one for each day away from each other. With nothing to do at Donner Lake, Darren looked forward to each new day when he got to open a new note. For each of these notes, he wrote one back to Erica. Meanwhile, Erica was working her butt off on a volleyball court.
After the week's vacation, Erica and Darren did not separate from each other for the rest of the summer. They started Junior year off together, dreading the worst of the stories that they'd heard. Although swamped with work from many different classes, Erica and Darren found time for each other, and without each other, they would have both gone insane.
